Hi All,
I am trying this project for the first time and have followed the first five steps.
I have not "hacked" the router as I do not have the FTDI cable.
I use tftp to transfer the trx file over to the router and give the router 5 minutes before disconnecting the power, then reconnect and wait a further 5 mins.
I can then configure it as per the how-to but I have the following issues:
No Wireless - the air light comes on and I can get it to work as long I first connect it via a network cable.
This is not a major issue as I intend to use a network cable and not wireless.
When it comes to installing the hmod-usb files I get this problem when trying to update the package source.
I edit the opkg.conf file to this:
opkg.conf

Re: New Build -
Which .trx file did you use? My first thought was that you used a trx from the OpenWrt (which is configured by default as wifi access point, not as a client), and did not use the bcrm-2.4 image.

Re: New Build -
Thanks for the quick response.
I used the trx file linked in part four.
openwrt-brcm-2.4-squashfs.trx.

Re: New Build -
Weird. Did you try reflashing the router? What does the command "cat /etc/openwrt_release" give?
As for the serial cable, I've never used one, and always use the method you describe (simply flash "in the blind", as it were, and waiting 5 minutes).

I've been thinking about this throughout dinner.
I may not have downloaded this from part 4 (it was a many sleeps ago), so I will start afresh tomorrow.
Cheers for raising the question, I will keep you all informed as I go along.

Re: New Build -
Okay started afresh.
But still the same result.
No wireless contact.
I copied the config files from the sticky.
Renamed my SSID to PSTEP.
I just get "Destination Port Unreachable" when trying to go wireless.
It's fine hard wired and I can install the USB files.

Re: New Build -
Okay I surrender!
Sometimes the wireless works fine, then you switch off and the wireless doesn't work anymore nor will it restart.
Anyway proceeding along without wireless.
I installed mpd and mpc, did the file tweaking.
But have no audio - I suspect that it's my USB audio device as I get an OSS error:
root@OpenWrt:~/.mpd# cat mpd.error
Jan 01 00:24 : unable to open oss mixer "/dev/mixer"
Jan 01 00:24 : using software volume
Jan 01 00:26 : Error opening OSS device "/dev/sound/dsp": No such file or directory

Jan 01 00:26 : problems opening audio device while playing "http://relay3.slayradio.org:8000/"
This is my latest dmesg:

Re: New Build -
From the dmesg output it looks like your sound device is recognized properly, but you are missing a sound related package (kmod-sound-core). Are you sure downloaded the image from MightyOhm and followed his tutorial accurately? He mentions something about manually installing kmod-sound-core if it does not get installed automatically.
Sorry to be pedantic about this, but it's important

Re: New Build -
No need to apologise, I had over looked that part.
Ran through the setup again and now it all works.
Just need to find an easy mpd client and some speakers.
Cheers

Re: New Build -
Right got it working nicely.
Thanks for the help along the way, especially to Jeroen.
The only problem I have now is getting BBC Radio 2 or 4 to work, the BBC appear to have a different way of streaming and I cannot get them to play.
Never mind it was an interesting distraction over the Christmas holiday period and I learnt a bit more linux.
Plus I can always reset the router and use it elsewhere.
Cheers
Titus.
