Wifi Boombox

Post by garrickm78 »

I've wanted an all-in-one FM/CD/Wifi boombox I can use around the house for about a year now. I ran across the video on tinkernet and then all the info here and decided to mod my JVC AM/FM/CD/Tape boombox. I removed all the tape player components and fit the Asus router board in its place. I fed the audio output from the USB sound card to the old tape input, and with the addition of a simple voltage regulator to drop the 8V tape motor power down to 5V I use the boombox power (either AC or battery). It works great so far, all that's left is to finish the software config to stream my MP3 collection to it and control from my iPhone.

The router lights are visable through the opening where the tape controls used to be.

Other than the button on top to switch to the wifi radio input, the case is unmodified.

Your case is pretty awesome and reminds me of with my original vision for this project. Where did you connect the audio output from the router to exactly? The wires for the tape read head or somewhere else?

Very creative use of the 8V motor power to supply to power the router. :)

Nice work! :D
