I just got OpenWrt trunk (r33395, built myself) on my MR3020 as a base platform, with ALSA and the USB libraries. Loaded Squeezeslave as a package, downloaded from:

(Don't bother with squeezeslave-alsa, it segfaults on my platform even though it has alsa-lib.)

This is a great little cube, with the USB audio card, it still fits into a 5"x3"x1" space. I plan to stuff it inside a boombox enclosure.

anyone knows a device operating at 5Ghz that is working with this project? I would like to kill the 2.4Ghz wifi at home as there are to many disturbances from neighbours etc.

Just check the table of hardware. E.g. the TP-Link TL-WR2543ND supports both openwrt and 5ghz. Also this router has 8MB of flash, so you don't need to compile the firmware yourself, to fit into the flash, like Jeff had to do for the 4MB on the WL520GU.

Just check the following for any router:

• Does it have 5Ghz?
• Is it supported by OpenWrt?
• Does it have a USB?
• Does it have 8MB flash or more (or compile the firmware yourself)?

Just check which is the cheapest to get in your region, and which you like best.

By the way, that is all one needs to take into concideration? I thought it might be more complex due to different Chipsets / CPUs etc.

As far as I know that is all.
Chipset and CPU is taken care of by openwrt. If it is on the their support list, openwrt will run just fine. Just make sure you download the correct image.

I am thinking about taking a different approach to this problem. I think I should be able to repurpose a tablet to be my wireless linux receiver and use the headphone jack for the audio out. The USB port would have to be hacked to provide power and act as a USB input for control purposes. A USB mouse would make a cheap controller that may be easily supported under linux.

Any recommendations for dirt cheap tablets or e-readers that may make a good platform?

Very popular on eBay and other stores, not expensive, and there are modded versions with more RAM and ROM (also just chips for DIY) so you don't have to use USB memory. Hi All

I've just joined the forums as I am very interested in building a wifi Radio.Apologies if i'm scribbling away in the wrong area!!
I've looked into the Asus WL 520GU router, but that doesn't appear to be readily available in the UK.
However, an alternative I have is the BT Home Hub 3 type B and it is supported by OpenWrt !
I would love to be able to use this router, as it would be a crying shame to scrap it.

Could someone confirm that this is possible to convert and point me in the right direction to kick start me off please.
Also is there a gallery of completed works to marvel over?
