Odd behavior geiger counter not working

When I turn the geiger counter on sometimes nothing happens and other times there is very faint clicks from the speaker. If i hold the mute switch down the geiger counter starts working reliable until i let it go. I removed the switch and now i can only get the very faint clicks again every third or fourth time i turn it on. I have reflowed all the solder joints. I can get it to beep by taking TP1 to ground or shorting J1 to the geiger tube. I am at loss for ideas any help would be appreciated thanks.

Yes, that is a strange problem. It seems that the microcontroller may not be getting a proper ground. Check all of your solder joints again and also make sure that all of the pins of the microcontroller are straight and fully inserted into the socket. If any pins are bent under the chip you may see problems like this!
