wl-520gu rs232 help

trying to get the onboard rs232 to work but i think i need a ftdi chip for this i have solderd the pin to the corect pinouts but do go do i have to get a chip to convert to rs232

Most folks buy a USB cable made for Nokia phones. I think they are super cheap on Ebay.

I followed the diagram GND’TX’RX’3.3V and want it to come out as a rs232 format I would rather just buy the chip but need to know what chip thanks also note i do not want to hook up to pc the router will be connected to a external device that uses rs232 protacol

The WL-520gU does not operate at RS-232 voltages. I'm pretty sure this is mentioned in the tutorials.
You need a chip (MAX232, etc.) or adapter cable to interface RS-232 signals with the TTL levels used by the router.

That's what I wasent shure to use max 232 our the fdti chip that's ok that I need the 5v to power the max 232 I will get the 5v from the external rs232 I will be using thanks
