Network Audio Bridge [tweak]

Post by Fray »

Hail Mighty Ohm and fellow tinkerers,

Have been using the Asus modem with OpenWRT now for a while and I must say I'm very satisfied having such a cheap internet radio solution in my hands. So thanks for for that guys! :)

The only thing that was still missing was a decent audio bridge from laptop/desktop to Asus. I couldn't find anything here on the boards and on the OpenWRT forum, so I started doing some investigative work myself and found a decent solution. Basically the idea is that you start your own shoutcast server and let the Asus connect with yourself.

So what you need (provided you have a working Asus OpenWRT Radio Server) : Setup:
  1. When you have installed both winamp and shoutcast, manually place the shoutcast dll in the winamp plugin folder.
  2. Setup the shoutcast config file to you speccs (really easy)
  3. Start up the shoutcast console and winamp
  4. In winamp goto preferences and select in the output the shoutcast dll (this will automatically start up the shoutcast config gui)
  5. Make the shoutcast tool connect with the running console and voila you have your own shoutcast server
  6. Load up some music and let your Asus connect to your IP
Enjoy!

Thanks for sharing this!

I have done the same thing using nicecast on the Mac. It is handy when I am doing a demo of the radio in a place that doesn't have a reliable wireless network (eg. Maker Faire).

Thanks again!
