ZIF Socket

Is there any reason why I couldn't use a ZIF socket like the one at https://www.sparkfun.com/products/9175 for the 28-pin chips? Does the PCB have room for that component?
It should fit! Spikenzie Labs added a ZIF socket to their Rescue Shield and it fit just fine:
