Different Approach with LCD on WL500gp

Post by tcjew »

I am very active in the wl500g.info forums, which is a forum talking about custom firmware from oleg, similar to the OPENWRT firmware.
I have to admit I tried to avoid toying with Electronics, so I bought a Cystalfontz 634 Display.
But my result are very similar to yours mightyohms.
I am using a "ati remote wonder" as a remote, to controll the display which is connected to a Wl500gp router running oleg firmware.
Here is a small video I made of my display in action, sorry for the remote not being in the picture but i used a crapy webcam from my laptop.
Here it is hope you like it:

Btw. I am using lcd4linux which doesnt seems to be mentioned here, its a nice programm to interface with the display.

Awesome, thanks for sharing! That is a very slick display, and the serial interface makes it really easy to get something working FAST.
I haven't seen the oleg firmware before but I'll have to check it out. What do you like about it over OpenWrt or are they both pretty much the same?

Actually the display is USB :D that makes it even more easy :) ...
The oleg firmware ist specificly designed for the Asus routers.
So it even keeps the original webif from asus, but under the hood its very similar to openwrt, nice ipkg system and a little easier to set up for beginners. I think its a bit faster as well couse its optimised for the asus routers.
If anyone wanna get more information plz visit "our" boards: http://wl500g.info.
