usb hub

Post by jfs10 »

I was wondering if anyone has had any success using a usb hub with the SYBA audio device? I purchased a hub and tried the setup with just the SYBA plugged into it, and I could barely hear anything from my speakers and what I could hear was distorted. Since the hub can be powered, I gave it some juice and still got the same result. When the SYBA is plugged directly into the ASUS, it works like a charm. I am planning on using an Arduino with this and figured the USB port would be the easiest way to go as it would provide both power and communications. So, does anyone have any set up with a usb hub and the SYBA?

Thanks

I have used a hub with good results. However, I have heard of some issues with USB-audio and hubs, so it's possible that some hubs work and others don't. Mine was a cheap 4-port USB 2.0 hub from Newegg, nothing special. Maybe try another hub (or several) and see if one works.

Can you let us know the hub part number on Newegg? I assume if you use a hub, you can also connect an external USB drive and use MPC to play music from there, right?

This is the one I have, looks like it's discontinued. :(

And yeah, I have used the hub to connect the SYBA audio adapter and a 128MB memory stick so I can play mp3 files off the stick.

I purchased this one from newegg:

I selected it because it could be powered and it looked like it would be very easy to take apart. Sadly, it did not work with USB audio device in either power mode.

Newegg still carries some other variants of the hub I have:

Might be worth a try...

Well, I tried

No luck. That is with the powered hub and just the audio device plugged in. So the only thing that could be drawing power is the itself. not sure why the hub is a problem.

I am using a crap-tastic $1 hub - its the sort that half the time only work as USB1.1, do for me on my desktop PC but on the asus they are fine and do USB2 speeds sweet as.

The xitel USB audio device I have used has a philips chip in it. Not tried the cheapie device since it sounded so bad on the computer I held no hope for it working on the asus.

Could it be the mixer thats the problem? I have to turn it up on the device I have, its about 20dB down by default. No noise tho, but it seems to have had some care in its design to avoid that.

That is really strange. I'm not sure what is going on. :(

I never use my hub in the powered config. I don't even know where the power adapter is anymore. :)
