Not knowing that all USB-Audio adapters do not work I ventured down to the local Micro Center and picked up a
BYTECC 7.1 CH Optical Sound Adapter model BT-US711.

The adapter has jacks for MIC in and headphones out plus a volume control.
The volume control does not work on this project although it works fine running in windows. It has a blue power led that blinks when you are connected to a station and is steady when idle. Other than the volume control not working it seems to work fine for me.

The price is marked $19.99 but rang up at $15.99

Hey all,

I just setup my Asus WL520GU as an internet radio and it's working great!
Many thanks to Jeff (mightyohm) for all his efforts on this project. This has been
a fun project from the start. I'd like to add my small bit and found that this USB adapter
from deal extreme works great (I' am listening to SkyFM as I 'am typing this post):

I've been playing around with a Teensy micro controller and my next goal will be to attach an LCD
and control the radio with volume and tuner knobs.

Do they actually work? :D
They are the blue audio adapters that give the continuous sine wave. I got it to work with the alsa drivers using this link: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=227 The sound quality is meh, but I only intended to listen to spoken word stuff mainly.

I'm happy to report back that the usb powered Logitech Z205 laptop speakers work by simply plugging them into the router.
The Z205 can be had for as little as $18.
