My Internet Radio Build

Hello,

I thought I would post a note to show my Internet Radio build and the iPhone app I wrote to remotely control it. I built a self contained unit with built in 15 watt stereo class D digital amp and speakers without any controls (other than a power switch). If you are interested in how I built the radio's case, check out my website at http://www.craigandheather.net/celeinternetradio.html.

Here is a picture of the finished radio

If you have any questions about my build, send me email at calhjh@gmail.com.

Thanks to Jeff for showing us how this is possible.

Now that is cool. By controlling it from an iPhone, iPad, or iPod you don't even have to open up the router, just hack the software (though having the serial port is very handy to make sure that your firmware loads complete). The only thing that I would do different is to build in my own speakers using raw drivers and crossover parts. I think I can make better speakers than what I can buy at RatShack.

Very sleek design. I really like the wood.

Why did you write your own iPhone app? Didn't other mpc clients not meet your needs? Or was it just for the fun of it :)?

I wrote the iPhone app so it would be just what I needed to control my internet radio and nothing more. Also, I have an idea for another app which would be based on this one so this was a first step.

I've had a lot of interest from people on this forum about the iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad app called Internet Radio MPC (http://clockwork.craigandheather.net/internetradio.html) I wrote to control our home made Internet radios. For this reason I thought there might be interest in a new app I wrote called My Stream Radio (http://clockwork.craigandheather.net/mystreamradio.html) which does the streaming directly to your iOS device (without a router being involved). This app should be available in the Apple app store in about a week.

Cheers,

My adventures with Internet radio, MPD, MPC continue and this all got started by Jeff at the MightyOhm. The following resources might be of interest to others on this same path:

1. I wrote an article, "Build Your Own Wifi Internet Radio", for Nuts and Volts Magazine, March 2012 issue.
2. I wrote up another of my Internet radio builds here: http://www.craigandheather.net/celeinternetradio2.html. This has been written up on hackaday.com as well.
3. I wrote an iPhone app called InternetRadioMPC to control the above Internet radio builds. The app is described here: http://clockwork.craigandheather.net/internetradio.html. It is available in the app store at: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/interne ... 41023?mt=8
4. I wrote another iPhone/iPod Touch app called MyStreamRadio described here: http://clockwork.craigandheather.net/mystreamradio.html which allows you to stream directly to your iDevice. It is also available in the app store at: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/mystrea ... 96310?mt=8
4. I just finished another iPhone/iPod Touch app called MPDClient which offers full control of an MPD music system. It is also available in the app store.

Hope you all are having as much fun as I am with this stuff.

Cheers for all DIYer's

Craig Lindley
