DIY AirPlay Speaker System using a Asus WL-520gu Router

Post by grayman4hire »

Hello,

It's been awhile. I recently switched my Asus 520gu to run ShairPort (aka AirPlay) versus MPD.

Here is my tutorial:

Thank you for introducing me to OpenWRT, the inspiration and giving new life to old routers.

Very cool!
I have an iPhone, but have never used AirPlay ... could I use an internet radio app on the phone and stream the stream to the router?
I got the radio software working on my router, but never finished the physical interface part ... this would mean I wouldn't need to!

Yes. The default config will broadcast a open SSID. Just connect your iPhone to the SSID, launch Pandora (or iTunes Radio in iOS7) and start AirPlaying. Your existing LTE/3G connection on your iPhone is maintained.
