just ordered a asus rt-n10u router to try the webradio project. Main reason to buy this model is availability and price (44 euros).

seems by the specs it has memory to easy deploy openWRT, but not much info about this model in forum or wrt page.

if i use the 520gu tutorial as a guide, will it run smooth?

any advice on the n10u? thanks for reading.

Seems like it has 8MB flash, so enough to install the normal OpenWrt image, and install MPD via dpgk. DO NOT install the image from the tutorial.

I think, you best bet would be to try the brcm-2.4 build (http://downloads.openwrt.org/backfire/1 ... uashfs.trx). But no guarantees. You might brick it.

this router is suported by dd wrt...... is it the same as openwrt? can i use it and then install mpc and mpd to uset it as a webradio.

the dd-wrt site says it only has 4MB flash. Not sure who is right here. If it indeed has 4MB, then there is no way to use jffs. You'll have to install the mpd package to an external usb stick. Since the router has only one usb-port you'll need a hub.

Shibby build of tomato are around 8MB, so no room for any packages to install.

Some Toastman build are smaller, but I can find which one will work for the n10u.

I think dd-wrt would be the easiest to start with. I don't see why it wouldn't work on dd-wrt.

what are the minimal packages to deploy to the router work exclusively like a wifi internet radio? I understand that when talking about a compiled version of wrt in 4 mb devices, u dont install unneeded packages and features to save memory.

You only need MPD and MPC. MPD might have some dependencies, but those will be installed automatically when using ipkg.

You have to get a standard ddwrt built with USB and JFFS enabled. Not the mega, because then, there will be no more room for a jffs partition.

thanks 4 the replys. just got the router and the usb sound card, just waiting 4 the 20x4 oled lcd and the max3232.

next step, build the serial adapter with max3232 to be able to comunicate with the router.

Are the pinouts in the serial port the same in the asus routers??

if the wrt setup goes well, next is to buil the usb lcd and ir receiver combo. the attiny2313 combo seems easy and well suported in lirc, lcd4linux and wrt.
