Any chance for a board to be produced?

Discussion about my Wifi Radio project at http://mightyohm.com/wifiradio/ or my WL-520gU talk at NOTACON.

Any chance for a board to be produced?

Post by foo_plinger »

I have my radio mostly working, but it is still a jumble of wire and breadboard spread out across my desk. I have never even attempted to make a printed circuit board, and don't think this will be the one I try. Has anyone considered making one available for this project?

I don't think you need a board. Just use jumper wires like I did:

I did a second one (that I haven't taken pictures of yet) where I put the headers on the bottom of the board instead. Using a file I opened one of the bottom vents enough to run the wires through. That is actually cleaner. Hopefully I can take pictures of it soon. (It's running as my household router, so I'll have to go offline to do it. ;) )

That's a bit neater, but what about the wires for the driving the chip and the LCD? That is where all my mess comes in.

Possibly after the Maker Faire, later this month. There was some talk of a kit being produced but it hasn't materialized yet, so I may go off on my own and make a PCB for the AVR/LCD circuit.

Jeff,
Any updates on producing a board for this? I have never made them, but would it be possible to post files that could be sent to a board manufacturer for small runs (less than 5)?
Thanks,
foo

Are other people interested in boards as well? I'm not sure what the economics would be of a small run, but I can look into it.

Has anyone drawn one up in Eagle, or something that could be easily duplicated?

Not that I know of. I should have done this when I first wrote up the project on the blog, but I was too busy getting my own radio ready for the Maker Faire. I built everything on a protoboard and it came out pretty well.
