My Geiger Bot link mod (alternative to Jeff's)

Post by anrieff »

Hi guys,

I got & assembled this counter two months ago, and I was looking for a way to hook it up to a higher-level device, e.g. an Android phone. I initially thought of a bluetooth module in SPP mode, but I saw the thread, relating Geiger Bot a few weeks ago, so I went along that path.

In fact, I've just written up a tutorial how to set everything up, and it turns out Jeff did the same JUST TWO WEEKS AGO :D
But anyways, I decided to share with you guys, as my approach is a little bit different.

The schematics are basically the same; I'm using, however, a different approach in interfacing the thing, using a RCA female socket, mounted in the plastic:

This allows you to easily remove the cable, and you can actually use a normal TV-out-splitter cable (TRRS-to-3-RCA).

You can see the full "tutorial" here: http://anrieff.net/abs/viewpost.php?lang=en&id=65

Also, you can see it in action, connected to an iPad, here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uItMO3__S-A

What's more, I really want to get this app running on an Android (I'm not a huge fan of Apple products. Even that iPad I got was a gift, I wouldn't have bought this thing myself :)). Any ideas of an alternative app in the Android world? If there's none, then I'll probably reimplement it there (after learning Java of course :))

anrieff,

That is really slick, thanks for sharing. I like your method of drilling into acrylic, I'll have to try that. :D

I'm not aware of a Geiger Bot for Android. If you find something like it, or implement your own, please do let me know and I'll post a link on the blog.

Nice work. :D

Any news on the android front?

I sold my iPhone and got myself a nice s3 and nexus 7. Now i'd love to log data with these two devices.

As i searched the web, it doesn't look like there is a geigerbot alternative :(

Hi,

unfortunately, I haven't even stated it yet.
