Cable to tube?

Post by triggur »

Is it okay to distance the tube from the board itself (using wire appropriately rated for the voltage)?

I have a constrained amount of space where the tube needs to be (on the surface of a fusor chamber) and I'd like to put the board in a remote location from the tube itself.

If so, what is a reasonable length for the wires?

This will work for short cables in electrically quiet environments.

The design of the kit puts the tube cathode at a potential above ground, so unless you use twinax cable, it's not possible to shield the cable (coax won't work, since you can't ground the shield). A few inches should be fine, but I would try to keep the cable as short as possible.

Thanks for the reply, Jeff.

Electrically quiet environment will be tough; the tubes are about 6 inches away from a 30kv discharge in a vacuum.

I'll give twinax a try and share the results!

Thank you.
