I cleaned another PCB at the weekend using the IPA/bleack brew, and you can see the results here http://liivatera.com/styled-2/styled-9/ It takes a few minutes to work (I think I left the board in the mix for 5-10 mins), but there are no signs of the white residue that plagued me before.
I used lots of flux from a pen when assembling the board, as well as the flux from the solder, but it came out nice and clean.
Hope this is some encouragement to persevere, as it is possible to get clean boards without using the expensive specialist chemicals.
